Today, The Cabinet of ministers capped the annual fee hike by private schools at 8 per cent of the last year’s fee.
Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal said that after the Cabinet nutation , regulations would be set up to embed the Punjab State Regulation of Fee of Unaided Educational Institutions Act, 2016.
The Cabinet also gave wag to the Punjab State Regulation of Fee of Unaided Educational Institutions Rules 2017, and declared that all other funds charged by schools would be covered under these canons.
The Member of the fee committee constituted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Dr Payre Lal Garg to look into how much fee enhancement was valid based on the funds available with schools in Punjab, lauded the Cabinet’s selection.
He said that more than 16 lakh students registered with 4,000 private schools approximately will benefit from the Cabinet’s selection.
A senior government functionary said that since the rules and regulation already in existance, Parents would have the right to access the nominated authorities in case of fee hike was more than 8 per cent.“The main aims to control the exorbitant/excessible fees being charged from students in the private schools across the state,” he said.
