Patiala police recovered 53 stolen cars, valued at Rs 6 crore, from a Meerut-based man in Delhi. It was culmination of planned crackdown on robbery and theft of vehicles, which lasted 10 days. Most of the cars recovered are either Toyota Fortuner or Innova and mostly purchased by Punjab-based businessmen and farmer families.
The cars were stolen with sophisticated grinders that would cleanly break the windows and wafer-like chips that would set ignition on. Punching machines were used to imprint chassis numbers on engines.
