Senior Congress leader and Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh today strongly condemned the brutal lathi-charge on protesting Punjab teachers and asked Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to explain whether it was the only way to communicate with peaceful protesters. Reacting to the Sunday incident that happened in Bathinda, where EGS and AIESTR teachers demanding regularisation were lathicharged, Rana Gurjeet Singh said that this was most unfortunate that the police were used to crush the voice and demands of teachers. “All they were demanding was an audience with the Chief Minister so that they can list their demands and request him to consider those sympathetically. It is surprising that the CM who boasts of Sangat Darshans and spends days and days meeting people trying to prove that he was a man of masses, could not spare a few minutes to meet the agitating teachers,” Rana said.
