In a sudden shift of stand towards Sikh militants lodged in various jails across the country, the Punjab Government has processed the cases for transferring eight more such persons to various jails in the state besides Devinder Singh Bhullar, who is likely to be transferred from Tihar to Amritsar jail later this week. Once transferred to the jails in Punjab, these persons may be released on parole, subject to security clearances.
While a sangharsh committee led by Surat Singh Khalsa, who is still on a fast in Ludhiana seeking the release of such convicts, had been demanding for over a year the transfer of these persons to state jails and their subsequent release, the state was hitherto maintaining that it could not help in the matter. Earlier, Gurbaksh Singh, another activist, was also on fast for the same cause.
