An 18-year-old youth, who had committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance on June 15, was being blackmailed by a man who tricked the victim over phone imitating a woman’s voice, revealed the FIR. The victim, Baljinder Singh, 18, had told his his parents that was going for work in a factory at Derabassi but instead, he left for his agricultural field. On the same night, he was found unconscious near the railway tracks.
He was rushed to a private hospital at Ambala, where he was declared brought dead. After postmortem, his body was handed over to parents for cremation. On June 16, his employer told the victim’s parents that Baljinder was being blackmailed over phone and had even deposited Rs 12,000 in the account of the caller after borrowing money from friends and other people. Father of the victim discovered a suicide note in the boy’s clothes in which he had written that he was being blackmailed and since he could not return the money, he was ending his life.
