Jalandhar records 36 mobiles missing daily

The city police have been receiving 36 complaints of missing mobiles every day for last two years and a single phone has not been recovered by city police. Hindustan Times has received information under Right to Information Act 2005 from commissionerate police from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2015. The details revealed that a total of 26561 mobile phones have gone missing and complaints of same numbers have been registered with police station outreach centers (PSOC) and community police suwidha center (CPSC) come under jurisdiction of commissionerate. The details also stated that from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014, 13581 mobile phones were reportedly went missing in the Jalandhar and in next financial year (April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015), 12980 complaints of missing phones were registered with police department. As per procedure, the complaints of missing mobiles are being registered with PSOC and CPSC when someone loses his or her mobile. In most of the cases, people usually block their subscriber identity module (SIM) from respective mobile telecom company after giving the copy of police complaint. Usually, people buy new mobile handsets after getting SIM and get move into their lives, but their phones remained untraced. A senior police official said that the it is almost impossible to trace the every phone as when someone get any lost phone or stole and they tamper with the IMEI serial numbers of the phones immediately.
