As monsoon is likely to hit Punjab in few days, the administrations of Gurdaspur and Pathankot, districts have been gearing up for flood control. The two districts have set up sub-divisional flood control rooms at Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Dera Baba Nanak and Batala which have started functioning round the clock from today. These control rooms have been provided mobile phones, wireless sets and telephones to keep track of water levels of Ravi and Beas rivers and their tributaries. A total of 190 villages which fall nearby and on the banks of Ravi, Beas Chakki and Ujh rivers and other small other rivulets, in fact 138 villages near Ravi, Chakki and Ujh rivers and 52 near Beas are considered to be flood prone. In anticipation of any flood like situation the administration of both the districts have made elaborate arrangements. A total of 32 relief camps have been identified which included 14 in Pathankot, 10 in Gurdaspur, 4 each in Dera Baba Nanak and Batala sub- divisions. Sufficient stock of boats, life jackets, motor boats, tent and chappus has been arranged. Besides, 5 motor boat drivers were deployed in Gurdaspur, 3 in Batala sub-division, 3 in Pathankot and 3 in Dera Baba Nanak.
