As many as 500 residents paid the house tax on the first day with the hope to get honoured on the Independence Day, besides availing 40% rebate, which will be applicable for all those who deposit the tax in first two months. The administration collected about `6 lakh on Day One.The UT administration had announced that it would honour first payer of house tax from each sector on the Independence Day with the ‘Chandigarh Mitra’.UT adviser Vijay Kumar Dev on Wednesday said residents will be able to pay house tax online from August 24. Dev, who visited the Sampark Centre at Sector 15, Chandigarh, on the first day of house tax collection, said, “I highly appreciate the response of the citizens of Chandigarh. House tax is a step towards the vision of a smart city and for residents’ convenience, we are starting online collection of tax from August 24.” The UT administration is also providing an online property tax calculator, through which the residents can calculate the exact amount to be paid, he said.
