Taking strong notice of the embezzlement and grabbing of government land out of the Golden Temple beautification project, known as ‘Galiara Project’ by SGPC, and change in the original drawings of the project by local authorities, the Aam Adami Party (AAP) will raise the issue in the coming Parliament session. Talking to UNI today, AAP MP Harinder Singh Khalsa said that he was stunned after receiving the information about the ongoing misdeed in the project, which derailed the main aim to address the security concern by de-congesting the localities in the immediate vicinity of Golden Temple and surrounding it. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had already issued notices to Shiromani Gurdwara Parnandhak Committee (SGPC), Punjab Urban Development authority (PUDA) and Punjab Chief Secretary to place the record before it in connection with a petition related to misdeeds and illegal auction of shops constructed in the Multi-Crore Golden Temple beautification project. Mr Khalsa, who also served as secretary of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) during terrorism period, said the party was collecting the record to highlight the nexus between the SGPC and ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) government, who were involved in the entire episode, he alleged. The work of Golden Temple beautification project started in 1988 after demolishing 500 houses housing 859 families, 1,150 shops and uprooting 859 families. The project was stalled due to militancy and was resumed in 1997.
