Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely here today expressed deep concern over the present plight of farmers in the state as well in the country. Mr Jaitley while addressing a rally at Ranjit Avenue here said agriculture profession is slipping into loss day by day which is deep concern. He said in the last cabinet meeting, first time in the history of nation, Union Government has earmarked Rupees 50 crore exclusively for the Irrigation system in the nation. “The FM said if state governments come forward to utilise or channelise the funds it would bring enormous change in positive direction in the field of agriculture as it would also give new face to farming sector in the nation he said.” “Talking about SAD/BJP alliance in the state, Mr Jaitley said apart from political alliance, there is also social alliance keeping the state out of turmoil and maintain peace and harmony in the state,” he said. “The minister also visited meritorious school run by Punjab government where during formal interaction with students, when FM asked them about joining agriculture as profession they were reluctant to join it as a profession and showed their keenness towards profession like doctor, engineer, army which is a matter of deep concern,” he said. He said Union Government was also planning for crop insurance so that farmers could get adequate amount in case crops damaged due to certain reasons.
