Continuing with his dharna for shifting of the landfill site at Bhagtanwala and the proposed Solid Waste Treatment Plant at the site, chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) and Akali MLA Inderbir Bolaria appealed to his party to join the issue in the interest of the residents and the Golden Temple. Bolaria, who has raised his voice against the SAD and the Punjab government, said he was committed to his stand. A few days back, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had announced to beautify the area around the dump and promised to the residents that they would not face any problem. Bolaria was not a part of SAD leaders accompanying Sukhbir to the dump.
The SAD leader, who is yet to get support from any of his party MLAs or local unit of the party, said, “I appeal to the party to join the issue so that it can be taken to its logical conclusion. People here have suffered a lot over years and we have failed to address their woes. The dump is an eyesore and close to the holy shrine. We must all get together to tackle the issue.” A large number of residents had gathered at the Bhagtanwala dump to support Bolaria, while demanding the shifting of the landfill site. The residents are also against the setting up of the proposed Solid Waste Management Plant.
