Civil surgeon R L Bassan today said that strict action would be taken against the errant medical staff responsible for the death of a four-day-old infant due to their staff’s negligence. The infant died in the civil hospital on Sunday after he was not attended by the hospital staff even as the parents made frequent requests to the staff on duty. The infant got inflicted a cut on the head during delivery through caesarian operation of the mother. Parents of the infant Dharminder Singh and Kuljit Kaur, residents of Moriwal village in Lohian, accompanied by relatives alleged that the infant died due to the negligence of the doctor who did not turn up to attend to the infant even as repeated requests were made to check the infant who was sinking. The civil surgeon though ordered a probe but refuted the charges of negligence of the doctor involved in the operation. He claimed that the infants generally inflict such cuts during caesarian operations. Further, the bay was premature and at the time of operation he was only 35 weeks old.
