Punjab Chief Secretary Sarvesh Kaushal today said the state government had spent Rs 140 crore to strengthen dhussi bundhs along the rivers of Ravi, Beas and Sutlej. Chairing the meeting of deputy commissioners of 13 districts and senior officers and engineers of the drainage department to review the preparedness of the district administrations to deal with the flood like situation in their respective districts, Kaushal directed the officers to take every step to deal with the situation arising due to floods during this rainy season. He said no lapse and laxity on the part of the officers and the concerned departments would be tolerated. He said sensitive points along the dhussi bundhs of all the three rivers of the state should be plugged and strengthened before the rainy season sets in full swing. He said funds required for the purpose would be released as per requirement but the bundhs should be strengthened on priority basis.
