The dry weather and rising temperature has hit production of leafy vegetables in the city. Rates of essential vegetables like peas, cauliflower and onion have almost doubled from the past week owing to hot weather which led to lower production.
“Vegetables like peas, cauliflower and coriander were locally produced but are now transported from Shimla which adds to cost of the vegetable,” said by Amarveer Singh, general secretary of Punjab state fruits and vegetables commission agents association. “The supply of onion was mainly from Rajasthan and Nasik but the produce has almost gone negligible in the respective areas, which has increased the cost. However, prices are expected to further rise up to Rs 40 per kg in the coming week”, he added.
