Legendary sculptor Shiv Singh passed away today at his residence in Panchkula after a brief illness.
Singh born at Hoshiarpur in 1938 scaled the pinnacles of artistry portraying his aesthetical acumen in different streams of visual arts. He was a gifted artist who practiced his artistic expertise in Painting and Designing but he was basically a sculptor. He studied at Punjab College of Arts from 1958 to 1963 first at Shimla and then at Chandigarh. He taught art at the Sainik School, Kapurthala till 1968. He retired as Professor of Arts in 1996 from Government Home Science College, Chandigarh. Sohan Singh Thandal, Cultural Affairs Minister Punjab expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of legendary sculptor, and said, “may God grant peace to his soul and give strength to his family and friends in this hour of grief.” Mr Thandal said recognising the contribution of Shiv Singh, the Punjab Govt had accorded him state honour.
