In another jolt to doctors working as senior residents in medical colleges of Punjab, the state’s department of medical education and research has discontinued their summer vacations for this year. The decision will be applicable on 200 doctors working in all government medical colleges in the state. Previously, all senior residents were given a month’s vacation each year.A doctor posted as a senior resident is posted for a threeyear tenure following the completion of their post-graduation and participates in teaching and patient-care activities. Sources in the department said the principals of all medical colleges were told over phone that no senior resident was to be allowed the one-month vacation. It was to be cancelled for those whose vacation had already been sanctioned with immediate effect.
“They will continue their duties as they were doing earlier,” the order said. Medical colleges issued these orders on Saturday. In spite of repeated attempts, state director of medical education and research Dr Manjit Kaur Mohi was unavailable for comments.
