Plastic bags ban with stiff penalty from Tuesday in UT

The Chandigarh administration has put a complete ban on the use of polythene and plastic carry bags in the city from Tuesday.Sub-divisional magistrate (central) Prince Dhawan, in the exercise of the powers vested under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), imposed a complete ban on the use of polythene and plastic carry bags in the area falling in the central subdivision.He said no person, including shopkeepers, vendors, wholesale traders, retailers and hawkers would use polythene and plastic carry bags for supply of goods. No person would manufacture, store, import, sell or transport polythene/plastic carry bags in Union Territory, Chandigarh, he added.
