The Punjab Government announced setting up of Postgraduate Institute of Horticulture Research and Education at Amritsar.With the establishment of this institute, Punjab is set to become a leading State in Horticulture Research and the crop diversification projects will scale new heights, an official spokesperson of the Horticulture Department said. He said that it will promote holistic growth of Horticulture sector, including research, technology promotion and extension, post-harvest management processing and marketing.He added that under the National Horticulture Mission, the State Government is committed to provide the basic amenities to improve the productivity by way of quality germplasm and planting material as well as develop water use efficiency through micro-irrigation.
