A research scholar in history department of the Punjabi University, Patiala, has alleged that a teacher had demanded Rs 2 lakh from him to serve as his guide for the PhD course. Fazilka-based Gurpreet Jaajabaad leveled the allegations against assistant professor of history Mohammad Idris in a press conference at the varsity campus on Wednesday. He even produces two bank receipts showing two transactions of Rs 50,000 each to Idris. Gurpreet alleged that he had deposited Rs 1 lakh into the teacher’s account only after Idris had demanded Rs 2 lakh from him to remain his guide for PhD. Idris refuted the allegations claiming that his brother, who is a friend of Gurpreet, had borrowed the money, which was transacted through his bank account. “Gurpeet is leveling baseless allegations. My brother borrowed the amount from him. My brother returned borrowed amount to him in installments of which we have documented proofs. How can he prove that the amount deposited into my accounts was the one that I sought from his to continue as his PhD guide,” said Idris.
