A private bank manager was killed in a collision between a truck and his Maruti Alto near Machiwara, 35km from here. Pramod Pallaha, all of 26, was headed for Hoshiarpur to pick up his pregnant wife, Neha, and her mother, Suchita, when the accident happened near Jadodi village, on Khanna-Nawanshahr road. Pramod was a manager at an ICICI Bank branch in Amloh, and was to become a father in a few days. A relative of the deceased said Pramod was going to pick his wife up because she was due in a few days. It has been alleged that the truck driver, identified as Kaurpthala resident Gurdeep Singh, was speeding and driving the vehicle recklessly. Pramod hailed from Hoshiapur and died on the spot. Machiwara police have booked the truck driver under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code, but are yet to arrest him.
