A car on Wednesday caught fire here in sector 23 and 24 , however, no one was injured in the incident . The interior of the car was completely gutted in the fire while car’s engine was safe. Traffic was halted for few minutes for dousing the flames.

The incident has raised a question on the security and safety of women who travel frequently in buses in private and state run buses. A similar incident had happened in Haryana few months back but nothing much has been done to safeguard women.

According to PSEB’s official site, 3,53,327 regular students appeared for the exam, out of which 2,42,406 students passed. The number of students who enrolled through open schools is 25,772 and only 6,916 students from this lot passed the exam.

The victim told the police that she was a regular traveller of the van. No arrest has been made in the case yet, police said, adding investigation is underway in this connection.

When the victim raised an alarm, the accused dragged her out of the car. The driver managed to escape when some passerby came to the woman’s rescue after hearing her cry for help.

Patiala police recovered 53 stolen cars, valued at Rs 6 crore, from a Meerut-based man in Delhi. It was culmination of planned crackdown on robbery and theft of vehicles, which lasted 10 days. Most of the cars recovered are either Toyota Fortuner or Innova and mostly purchased by Punjab-based businessmen and farmer families.

Two youths were killed when the bike they were riding on collided head on with a car coming from opposite direction near Hakima village in near Moga. Kuldeep Kaur (17) and Daljit Singh (18) were were yesterday returning to their village Jaimal Singh Wala after attending a religious procession. Their bike collided with a car killing the duo on the spot.
