Various farm insurance schemes formulated by the Union Ministry of Agriculture rejected by Punjab and even reject to Inform. To benefit the peasantry of the state, the state government has told the Centre to squeeze and adapt the schemes according the ground realities.
Suresh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary wrote that “We have inspected various farm insurance schemes prepared by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and found that these are not suitable for the farmers in Punjab.
The state government said Punjab farmers that though progressive, had over the years been practising low-risk agriculture with guaranteed market for their wheat and paddy crops. They had undergone losses due to natural calamities and climatic aberrations but the loss had been limited to a few pockets/areas with varied impact. Even in such a situation, all farmers of a given area were not affected.
