The Punjab cabinet publicized that they will set up a new amend section section 295 AA in the Indian Penal Code to give life incarceration to those involved in sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib.
Throbbing spiritual emotions currently covered under IPC’s Section 295 A, makes irreverence punished by by three-year imprisonment.
Deputy CM of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal said that “This step would act as a restriction to prevent the repetition of such inopportune happening (sacrilege) in future,”
The BJP greet the step, but added the government should look for a similar punishment for disrespect to Hindu idols in temples where prana pratishta is followed even as one of the party’s ministers attended the cabinet meeting.
