In the Golden Temple authorities have planned to set up a biogas plant which will utilise the large amount of vegetable wasteed in the community kitchen.
The cost of the plant around Rs 80-90 lakh is being set up in sympathy with the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd . It will provide a permanent and economical supply of fuel to prepare Guru Ram Dass Ji Langar Hall in the shrine complex.
The langer hall project is underway. which would help adjust Devotees double the number than its present capacity.
At present langer is prepared on LPG. It is cooked from firewood. Around 90 LPG cylinders are used daily to prepare langer. The high cost of LPG cylinders the SGPC continually sought subsidy but it was never approved. The biogas plant will not only work in supporting of eco friendly enviorment as well as it is economical for the SGPC used in the community kitchen which provide langar to around 60,000 people daily.
MC Commissioner Sonali Giri told that the project include underground refuse storage bins and bio compactors. It will support the the biogas plant to ignite the fire. The Amritsar MC said the plants will take three months to install. Additional secretary Diljit Singh Bedi told we have already provide a plot for the purpose.
