Around 1,261 farmers of the state completed their mandatory 3 years period. During this period they did not use synthetic fertilisers and they build soil health in their fields. All these farmers of the state have been certified “organic” by an internationally authorized agency named as SGS Limited.
Last year around 517 farmers of the state got the certification. Managing Director of the Punjab Agro Industries Corporation KS Pannu confirmed the development and told that we helped the farmers during these 3 years period and provided supplementary bio inputs to these registered farmers. We have monitored the standards of 1,261 farmers working on 3,100 acres of land.
With the changing market scenario where most of the people are opting healthier diet and the organic products are in demand. Last year Punjab Agro purchased Organic wheat at Rs 2,200 per quintal which was sold for Rs 3,000 per quintal. This year people directly purchased from the farmers.
