Rain in Punjab has made farmers worried as it may increase dampness in paddy and basmati crops and will reduce the quality. Agriculturists assume that unfavourable rain may reduce the quality which will ultimately lower the value of the grain.
The crop of basmati has properly grown and is being taken to the grain market, while procurement of paddy will start from October.
This time, rain was not favourable for both the crops as crops are set for harvest. This heavy rainfall has rescheduled the harvesting of crops and has been delayed by one week. Rain may bloom undesirable black substance which may harm the grain.
Balwinder Singh Chhina said,” Those farmers who have used fertilizers in excess quantity will be the most affected as overfeeding will increase the size and weight of the grain and will tend to bend in wind and rain more easily.
