A blood bank available with two blood bank refrigerator started from a single room in 1954 have capacity of storage almost 50 units at past in the Department of Transfusion Medicine (Blood Bank) Rajindra Hospital, Government Medical College, Patiala, now becomes one of the oldest and the blood banks in the country has achieved the National Blood Transfusion Council (NTBC) target.
It achieved the target by the World Health Organization (WHO) of 100 percent voluntary blood donation.
It is placed at number one Blood bank in state out of total 102 blood banks from last five years as far as they organized various blood camps and voluntary blood donors.
Initially blood was stored in glass bottles.
