Punjabi novelist and story writer Gurdial Singh died on Tuesday. He was 83 and awarded with Jnanpith Award which is India’s highest literary award . He is also awarded with Sahitya Akademi Award, Soviet Nehru Award, Padma Shri.
He has worked as a professor of Punjabi University Patiala. His two great novels are `Marhi Da Deeva’ and `Anhe Ghode Da Dan’ . Two punjabi films are created which are based on these novels. Both the films won national film awards . He wrote short stories for children. Through his work he supported promotion of Punjabi language, literature and culture . He will be memorialized for his remarkable work.
Many celebrities and politicians shed tears for him. Parkash Singh Badal said that he is the son of soil.
