In Muktsar and its adjoining areas there was heavy rainfall which can affect the cotton crop. If the rain continues more than 24 hours then the standing cotton crop will be damaged. Officials of the Agriculture Department are worried because of this heavy rain .
Officials said that this year they are expecting cotton crops in huge quantity as they have controlled the whitefly attack timely. If in 24 hours there is more rain then the leaves and balls of the cotton will be affected. Which may decrease the yield.
Beant Singh Chief Agriculture Officer of Muktsar told that rain is good for the paddy crop but not for the cotton crop. He also told that they are awareing farmers of how to use pesticides as well as educating them . And also we have controlled the whitefly attacks in many villages.
If the cotton crop gets damaged then they will decrease the cotton sowing in next season.
Cotton crops are sown under 45,000 hectare and paddy crop under 1.4 lakh hectare in Muktsar. Since June 1 , 428.5 rainfall has been recorded in Muktsar as per the records. In last two days 90.8mm rainfall is received by the city.
Also the officials of Agriculture has approached the district administration to make sure that there is no blockage in drainage channels.
