The Chautala-led Indian National Lok Dal swarms into Punjab to begin the construction process of Satluj Yamuna Link canal. Both the Punjab and Haryana at the Shambhu Border has been beefed up the security.
The government of Punjab is against this construction of the SYL canal and said that Punjab does not have enough water to share with Haryana.
The Supreme Court has told that Punjab is bound by orders to construct the SYL canal and also given one last chance to exhibit Punjab’s inability to construct the SYL canal.
The government of Punjab in 2004 had passed a law which terminated the agreements of sharing river water with Haryana. The Supreme Court has directed both the states to maintain the law and order properly.
The vehicles that are going from Delhi to Punjab will be diverted to Chandigarh from Ambala and vehicles that are going from Punjab to Delhi will be diverted at Khanna and Doraha for their onward journey.
In the Shambhu border, the Section 144 CrPC has been imposed. This is the border area between Punjab and Haryana, now this will remain sealed for 8 hours so that INLD workers who are trying to cross over into Punjab will be prevented.
At 10 locations the checkpoints have been established. Both the Punjab and Haryana governments are given clear instruction by Supreme court to keep the status quo position on SYL canal. Both the states have deployed heavy police personals to ensure compliance with court orders.
The SAD had made it very clear and made this a campaign issue as well as said that they would not allow water to enter in Haryana.
The BJP in Haryana said that what the INLD doing is just a trick and they will surely return empty handed.Also, the Punjab Congress has taken the stand against sharing of Punjab,s water with Haryana.
