Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee is meant for management of nine historical Gurdwaras in Delhi which includes Bangla Sahib, Sis Ganj Sahib and Sri Rakab Ganj Sahib. Under this the community also look for the six colleges which includes SGND Khalsa College, SGTB Khalsa College and Mata Sundri College in DU.
The election will held on 26 February, Sunday when National Capital vote to elect members of the new Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. Apart from the above mentioned Gurdwaras & colleges the management took responsibility of several libraries, schools and other social institutions associated with DSGMC. The headquarter of DSGMC community is situated at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib in New Delhi. DSGMC community is counterpart of SGPC i.e. Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee which look after management of all places of worship & institutions in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh.
In the history of DSGMC so far a fair competition between Shromani Akali Dal (Badal) and Akali Dal (Delhi) have been but adding to a twist this time a new party named Panthic Sewa Dal (PSD) supporting by non other than AAP is proving a tough competition in the elections.
The eligibility criteria to be a committee is the one who is minimum of 25 years age, an ‘amritdhari’ Sikh, who does not take alcoholic drinks, trim his hair and is able to write and read in Gurumukhi script. As per the report total 335 candidates including 184 independents are contesting the polls this year. To make sure to run process smoothly 560 polling stations have been set up across Delhi.
